Harwell, VMIC

Hathaway delivered the specialist roofing and wall cladding package for the Vaccines Manufacturing and Innovation Centre (VMIC) at Harwell, a nationally significant facility developed as part of the UK’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Working with main contractor Glencar, Hathaway delivered a comprehensive building envelope package incorporating Kingspan insulated roofing and wall systems alongside architectural rainscreen cladding. The roof was formed using Kingspan Topdek insulated single-ply composite panels, complemented by integrated rainwater goods and associated detailing.

Across the elevations, a combination of Kingspan KS1000MR and KS1100 Karrier insulated panels was installed, with contrasting metallic finishes and Kingspan Dri-Design aluminium rainscreen creating the building’s distinctive contemporary façade. The package also included bespoke flashings, mitred corners, parapet cladding and detailed interfaces around the curtain walling.
