Rolls-Royce Submarines, Derby

Hathaway delivered a comprehensive roofing and wall cladding package at Rolls-Royce Submarines’ Raynesway site in Derby, a highly secure, nuclear-licensed facility at the heart of the UK’s submarine propulsion programme. The site is used for the design, manufacture and support of the nuclear propulsion systems that power the Royal Navy’s submarine fleet. Hathaway’s works combined Kalzip aluminium standing seam and Sarnafil single-ply roofing systems with Rockwool-cored insulated composite wall cladding across high bay, low bay and office areas. The package also incorporated GRP rooflights, insulated rainwater systems and associated flashings and detailing, with particular consideration given to thermal performance, air permeability and the reduction of cold bridging across the building envelope.
