About Us
Hathaway is a UK-based specialist contractor delivering the design, supply and installation of external envelope solutions for projects nationwide.
Our approach combines in-house technical capability, structured project delivery and long-standing industry experience to support safe, high-quality and reliable outcomes for our clients. This is further strengthened by our dedicated in-house fabrication division, which enhances quality control, coordination and programme certainty across our projects.
Our History
Hathaway was founded in 1967 by the late Bernard Hathaway, who laid the foundations for the company’s long-term stability, reputation and success. As Chairman, he was known for his business leadership and the delivery of some of the UK’s most iconic structures, including Charing Cross Station, major automotive manufacturing plants of the 1980s, Stansted Airport, the Daily Mail facilities, and advanced microchip manufacturing facilities in the 1990s.
Following 30 years of steady growth and an established reputation within the industry, the business underwent a management buyout in 1997, led by Dave Binks. He guided the company through a challenging period until his retirement in 2012 and was instrumental in the award and delivery of the world-renowned Terminal 5 at Heathrow.
The business is now led by Managing Director Steven Price, who joined Hathaway in 1986. With over 40 years of experience within the company, he has overseen a period of significant expansion and scale. Under his leadership, Hathaway has delivered some of the UK’s largest and most complex industrial and logistics developments — from massive distribution facilities and major manufacturing plants to globally recognised e-commerce logistics hubs, advanced cloud and AI-driven data centres, and critical food and pharmaceutical infrastructure that supports the nation.
Sustainability and future-proofing now drive the company’s continued growth, ensuring Hathaway remains at the forefront of industrial envelope delivery.
With almost 60 years of experience in the construction sector, Hathaway is recognised as one of the UK’s largest and most successful industrial envelope contractors, with its people as its greatest asset and safety, integrity, loyalty, positivity and culture at the heart of the business.
How We Work
Our delivery model is structured, collaborative and focused on reducing risk, improving buildability and achieving programme certainty. We support projects from early engagement through to installation and handover, with each stage aligned to clear roles, responsibilities and controls.
Early Engagement & Design
Our in-house Design Team works closely with clients, architects, engineers and project teams to develop coordinated, buildable solutions that consider technical compliance, buildability, programme and value. We work collaboratively with our trusted supply chain partners at this early stage to ensure material selection, procurement strategy and specialist input are aligned with programme and commercial objectives.
Planning, Sequencing & Buildability
Projects are planned collaboratively to develop practical installation methodologies, build sequences and logistics strategies that align with wider project objectives and site constraints.
Safety, Quality & Risk Management
Safety and quality are embedded throughout our operations and managed through robust SHEQ systems, ensuring controlled processes, safe systems of work and consistent standards across all projects.
In-House Fabrication & Logistics
Our in-house fabrication team delivers bespoke flashings, architectural features and project-specific rainwater goods that provide the finishing touches to every external envelope. From pre-coated steel components to aluminium porticos, we combine attention to detail with coordinated manufacture and just-in-time delivery to support seamless installation on site.
Installation, Handover & Aftercare
Construction activities are managed by dedicated Project Managers, supported by Planning, Design and Fabrication teams.
Our experienced non-working site management teams lead the coordination of works, supported by the wider Hathaway team to ensure seamless project delivery. Our dedicated installer operatives consistently achieve high standards of workmanship and quality, maintaining programme momentum. Every project is handed over in a structured and professional manner, with responsive aftercare and ongoing customer support available as required.
