MBDA, Logistics North, Bolton

Hathaway delivered the roof and wall cladding package for MBDA’s 150,000 sq ft advanced manufacturing facility at Logistics North, Bolton.

The purpose-built facility forms an important part of MBDA’s UK manufacturing operations, supporting the production and assembly of complex weapon systems including Brimstone, ASRAAM, Sea Ceptor and Meteor.

Hathaway delivered a comprehensive roofing and wall cladding package, combining Kingspan insulated composite panel systems with architectural micro-rib cladding, polycarbonate rooflights and wall-lights, insulated rainwater gutters and associated flashings and detailing. The specification incorporated different panel profiles, orientations and finishes across the elevations, together with enhanced thermal and fire-performance requirements appropriate to this major defence manufacturing facility.

  • Scale: Approx. 150,000 sq ft advanced manufacturing and engineering facility.
  • Roof: Kingspan KS1000RW insulated composite roof panels in Goosewing Grey, incorporating approximately 10% polycarbonate rooflights.
  • Walls: Kingspan KS1000RW profiled composite panels alongside KS1000MR micro-rib secret-fix panels, installed horizontally and vertically in a range of finishes.
  • Rainwater: Insulated boundary wall and valley gutter systems incorporated within the roofing package.
  • Performance: High-performance insulated envelope designed to meet specified thermal and fire-performance requirements.
  • Sustainability: The facility achieved a BREEAM "Very Good" rating reflecting its high standards of environmental performance and sustainable design. 
  • Defence: The facility supports MBDA’s manufacture and assembly of major complex weapon systems for the UK Armed Forces and international defence programmes.
