Roofing and wall cladding package for BAE Systems’ 350,000 sq ft advanced munitions manufacturing facility in Washington, Tyne & Wear.

Hathaway delivered an extensive roofing and wall cladding package for BAE Systems’ £75 million manufacturing facility in Washington, working for Bowmer & Kirkland. The purpose-built defence manufacturing site supports the production of critical munitions for the UK and allied armed forces, including artillery shells, mortar bombs, and medium-caliber ammunition. Hathaway’s package covered the main low and high-bay production facility together with the office, welfare and ancillary buildings, incorporating composite and standing-seam roofing systems, insulated wall cladding, single-ply roofing, rooflights, rainwater systems and associated envelope detailing.

  • Production Facility Roof: Kingspan KS1000RW composite panels to the low bay and Euroclad SF500 secret-fix standing seam roofing to the high bay.
  • Wall Cladding: Kingspan KS1000RW composite cladding to the production facility, with Kingspan/Optimo composite systems to the office and welfare blocks.
  • Office & Welfare Roofs: Kingspan Topdek single-ply membrane composite roofing systems with membrane walkways.
  • Roofing Details: Rooflights, roof penetrations, flashings, rainwater gutters and gravity drainage incorporated across the works.
  • Defence Manufacturing: The Washington facility forms part of BAE Systems’ UK munitions manufacturing capability, producing large-calibre ammunition for UK and allied armed forces.
