Case Study
Hathaway were appointed to deliver the roofing and external wall cladding works for Multiflight’s aircraft hangar development at Leeds Bradford Airport.
Completed in 2003, the £6 million development provided purpose-built aircraft storage and maintenance facilities for Multiflight, a commercial aircraft charter and maintenance operator. The project comprised two adjoining aircraft hangars, each with a 60m clear span, designed to accommodate up to four Boeing 737 aircraft beneath a distinctive double barrel-vaulted roof.
Hathaway’s roofing works incorporated a Kalzip 400 aluminium standing seam system with a stucco embossed finish, installed over insulated steel lining panels. The curved roof design required specialist detailing at the central valley, eaves and verges, together with integrated insulated gutter systems for effective rainwater management.
The external elevations were clad using Kingspan KS1000MR insulated composite panels, installed horizontally in contrasting Sargasso Blue and Metallic Silver finishes. The cladding package also incorporated colour-matched flashings, aluminium fascias and soffits, together with detailed interfaces around the large aircraft hangar doors, glazing and ventilation louvres.
The completed development demonstrates Hathaway’s experience in delivering specialist roofing and cladding solutions for aviation infrastructure, combining large-scale curved roof construction with an integrated external envelope designed to meet the requirements of operational aircraft facilities.
