Our Environmental Responsibility
Carbon Reduction & Net Zero
We actively measure, manage, and reduce our carbon footprint across our operations and supply chain.
This includes Scope 1, 2 and relevant Scope 3 emissions, with data used to inform decision-making, procurement and continuous improvement.
Hathaway has developed a Carbon Roadmap and Carbon Reduction Plan, aligned with our commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2045.
We partner with NZC Solutions and Achilles to calculate our organisational carbon footprint in line with ISO 14064, and we are proud participants in the Achilles Carbon Reduce Certified programme.
Our approach includes:
Annual organisational carbon footprint reporting
- Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions management
- Low-carbon product selection
- Operational efficiency improvements
- Supply chain collaboration
We also utilise HVO fuel across project sites, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared to traditional diesel and supporting cleaner site operations.
Environmental Management
Hathaway holds ISO 14001 certification, providing a structured framework for managing environmental impacts and driving continual improvement across our business and projects.
This supports:
- Responsible waste management
- Pollution prevention
- Environmental compliance
- Performance monitoring and review
Biodiversity & Nature
We believe construction and nature can coexist.
We actively support local biodiversity through partnerships with our local nature reserve and Durham Wildlife Trust, delivering hands-on environmental initiatives including our Wild Work Days.
These days enable our team to contribute directly to habitat improvement and conservation projects.
We also work with Community Wood Recycling, helping divert materials from landfill while supporting social enterprise, from our fabrication division and project sites.
Through our partnership with Winvic Construction Ltd, we delivered an environmental session at a local primary school in Lutterworth, where pupils painted bird boxes created by Community Wood Recycling. These were later installed around the project site, creating lasting biodiversity features while educating young people about sustainability.
Our biodiversity actions include:
- Conservation volunteering
- Habitat enhancement
- Environmental education
- Reuse of materials through Community Wood Recycling
- Project-based biodiversity initiatives
