SHEQ
At Hathaway, Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SHEQ) are fundamental to how we operate. They underpin every decision we make, from early design advice and procurement through to manufacture, installation and handover on site.
Our SHEQ framework provides the structure, assurance and culture needed to protect our people, safeguard the environment and deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes for our clients.
The three applicable standards, ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001, have been integrated into a single suite of Policy Documents (Integrated Management System), to reduce operational costs and audit times, eliminated redundancy, improved efficiency, and enhanced risk management. This approach drives consistent, company-wide performance improvements and simplifies compliance efforts.
Safety
Safety is our first priority and a core value across Hathaway.
We have played an active role in improving safety standards within the roofing and cladding sector and remain fully committed to continuous improvement. This commitment is evident across all areas of the business — from our head office and fabrication facility to live project sites, and from senior management to operatives on the tools.
We operate robust health and safety management systems certified by BSI and currently hold ISO 45001 accreditation. These systems enable us to develop, implement, monitor and review our processes to a consistently high standard, ensuring risks are effectively managed and controlled.
A strong safety culture is supported through open communication, workforce engagement and employee consultation at every level. Feedback is actively encouraged and forms a key part of our approach to identifying hazards, improving processes and developing practical, workable solutions.
Our commitment to health and safety has been externally recognised through consistent awards from the NFRC, including the Gold Award in their National Safety Awards, alongside accreditation with SAFEcontractor and Constructionline.
Our objective is clear: to provide a safe working environment and to strive for an incident and injury-free workplace.
Health & Wellbeing
The health and wellbeing of our people is fundamental to our operations and a core part of our SHEQ commitment.
We are dedicated to providing a healthy working environment that supports both physical and mental wellbeing. Health considerations are embedded into project planning and day-to-day activities to ensure risks are identified, managed and reviewed at appropriate intervals.
In support of our people, we work in partnership with Benenden Health, providing employees with access to additional healthcare support and guidance. This reflects The HathaWAY — our values-led approach built on trust, respect, work–life balance and a responsibility to care for our people beyond minimum compliance.
We recognise the importance of mental health awareness and early intervention. We have trained Mental Health First Aiders across the business and are working towards a target of one trained Mental Health First Aider for every four employees by 2026, ensuring accessible and confidential support is available.
Hathaway are committed to creating a respectful and inclusive working environment where everyone is treated with fairness, dignity and respect. This commitment is reflected in our recruitment practices, employee development and day-to-day working culture.
Environment
We are committed to managing our activities in a responsible and sustainable manner to minimise environmental impact and prevent harm to the environment.
Environmental risks are identified, assessed and controlled through structured management systems, supported by our ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System. This framework ensures compliance with applicable legislation, effective resource management and continual improvement across our operations and projects.
Environmental considerations are integrated into planning and delivery activities, including logistics, waste management, pollution prevention and the efficient use of materials, labour and plant.
Our environmental management approach supports the wider sustainability objectives of the business.
Further information on our carbon reduction strategy, net zero targets, social value activity and long-term commitments can be found on our dedicated Sustainability page.
Quality
Delivering consistent quality and meeting the expectations of our clients and stakeholders is of prime importance to Hathaway.
Quality, alongside Health, Safety and Environmental responsibility, forms a cornerstone of our business and runs through everything we do. Our quality management systems have evolved over several decades, from early adoption of BS 5750 through to our current ISO 9001:2015 certification.
Continuous improvement is central to our approach. We regularly review performance, processes and feedback to ensure we maintain high standards and continue to improve the way we operate.
Our integrated management systems cover all stages of a project — from initial conception and design through manufacture and installation to final delivery. This structured approach enables us to provide a professional, reliable service and build long-term relationships with our clients and supply chain partners.
We recognise that our people and supply chain are integral to our success, and our standards and expectations extend to everyone working with and on behalf of Hathaway.
